This is a Story of the United States Army at War in Afghanistan.


Most of what you read here never makes the nightly news for this site is really about the folks on the sharp end who make it happen far from the media spotlight. These are accounts of dirty, lethal firefights at close range, while attack helicopters clatter overhead, far from the klieg lights of mainstream media.

There are blogs describing the odious voyage to war, while others were (literally) jotted down listening to the crackle of AK-47’s as American soldiers surged forward under fire.  Some of the recorded interviews end in tears. It is a dreadfully magnificent human enterprise, full of exultation, terror, and pride.


The experience of combat in Afghanistan has again proven that our youth, in mortal peril, exemplify all that is truly great about the United States of America. Extraordinary valor, indomitable grit and boundless determination are transcendently prevalent virtues of those in uniform, and should remind the rest of us how lucky we are to reside in the land of the free and the home of the brave.

It is to those steadfast, unyielding souls whose forward vision is obscured by the bayonet on the end of their rifle this blog is dedicated to. It was a humbling experience to go to war with you and for that I shall be forever grateful.
